Delegates

What is a Delegate?

A delegate is a member of the Scroll community who has been elected to represent other token holders and who votes and participates in governance matters on their behalf. Delegates are selected by token holders who choose to delegate their voting power to them. Delegates are required to follow Scroll DAO’s defined constitution and code of conduct, and must act in the best interest of the token holders whom they represent.

Becoming a Delegate

Being a delegate is a permissionless process. In order to become a delegate, create a profile on Agora, fill out your delegate statement, and open a delegate communication thread on the forum by creating a topic for yourself here.

Delegate Best Practices

Before deciding to become a delegate, it’s crucial to understand the responsibilities and expectations associated with the role. Review the following guidelines to ensure that you are fully prepared to serve as a delegate for the Scroll community:

  1. Understand the Responsibilities
    1. Delegates are expected to actively participate in the decision-making process and to act in the best interests of the network. Familiarize yourself with the Scroll community guidelines and governance documents.
  2. Review Key Documents
    1. Ensure you have read Scroll’s goals and visions around the future of the protocol such that you’re both aligned and excited by it! These documents will include the constitution, or protocol vision and governance roadmap laid out by the Foundation and community that is core to the mission of Scroll.
  3. Create your Delegate Statement
    1. Create a delegate profile to outline your qualifications, experience, and vision for the Scroll. Your profile will be displayed on gov.scroll.io/delegates and will allow community members to delegate their voting power to you.
  4. Create your Delegate Thread
    1. Use the delegate statement you created as the basis of your Delegate Thread on the Scroll Forum. Yes, it’s ok to copy / paste it for the first post. This is the best place to add rationale on major votes and where community members or other delegates might ask you questions.
  5. Be Prepared to Engage Openly and Continuously
    1. Becoming an active and engaged delegate requires time commitment as well. You should expect to stay abreast on all Scroll developments and community changes over time and help guide the protocol towards its future vision as the ecosystem evolves.
  6. Seek Support and Clarification
    1. If you have any questions or need further clarification on your role or responsibilities, do not hesitate to visit the Scroll governance forums or join us on Discord to ask!
